England 3 Australia 2
Great goalkeeping from James Fair won a close-fought game for England.
A very unhappy Australian coach Ric Charlesworth counted 28 shots on target and 12 penalty corners misses - which in anyone's maths means England's man had a great between the uprights.
England coach Jason Lee said the result was "brilliant", but he was not happy with the overall performance which would have to improve if his side were to keep on winning, he said.
Australia hit the pitch with the afterburners already lit, trying to blast England out of the game in the first 15 minutes. But cool heads all round, notably from Glenn Kirkham and Richard Mantell, stemmed the gold tide. By the time Asutralia took the lead in the 23rd minute - through a Jamie Dwyer stroke after a stick tackle in the circle - England had already weathered the worst of the opening storm.
A penalty corner, placed high and right by Ashley Jackson, levelled the scores in the following minute while James Tindall then chipped in with goals either side of half time before Jamie Dwyer tidied up after a penalty corner to make the last ten minutes exciting.
Tindall's first came from a well-worked, slip left on a penalty corner two minutes before half time. The second came from one of England's most enterprising attacks as Tindall beat his marker on the left toucline to find Iain Mackay in the circle. The Reading forward's shot hit the post and Tindall slotted home from close range.
MoTM: James Fair.

Poor Aussies
What a shame to see Aussies beaten at Hockey by England. An Aussie mate said to me it was a disgrace to lose to England. I said you must suffer while we celebrate. He said we would beat them 9 times out of 10. I said like England v Australia at Football !! Then I said don't worry you are not out of the WC yet...
